GOLDEN CITY JOIN THE MAGIC BULLET RECORDS FAMILY

Truly great artists are ones that conjure an impacting and enduring emotional response, often giving us something that nobody else can. When talking about music, this can encompass everything from a unique way of playing an instrument, the quality and delivery of a vocal performance, intriguing percussive arrangements, and/or any combination of countless elements such as these. Often, it leads into auto-recognition of a particular artist across their entire catalog. For instance, whether you're hearing a Bruce Springsteen song from the 70's or one cut ten minutes ago, you know exactly who you're listening to.

In the mid 1990's, a Denver, CO quartet called CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE cultivated such a phenomenon across multiple independently-released albums, splits, and singles. Emerging from punk roots and upbringing (and largely operating within punk's infrastructure - shunning the majors when they came calling), the band was truly one of a kind, capable of harnessing visceral, raw guitar power with passionate and melodious singing in a way that others could neither approach nor perfect. Unquestionably, the melodic vocals of singer/guitarist Eric Richter elevated his reputation and subsequent recognition across indie rock and punk rock circles alike, effectively setting a bar for melodic punk in years to come.

After stints of eclectic experimentation via his subsequent bands (ANTARCTICA, THE 101), Richter has emerged over a decade later with a rather triumphant and focused return to the emotional pitch of his roots, this time in the form of another melodic quartet known as GOLDEN CITY. Yet whereas CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE would sometimes supplement the melody with washes of distorted dissonance and textural screams, GOLDEN CITY exudes a clear refinement, maturity, and confidence that almost-impossibly manages to harken the best of both The Boss and their own impressive pedigree. Rounded out with a stellar lineup featuring the creative and technically astute talents of Jim Lehnhoff, Chris Peterson, and Jeremy Jones (also of THE 101), Richter once again delivers aural paydirt for fans worldwide.

Now after over a year spent writing, recording, and perfecting their live show, GOLDEN CITY are ready for prime time, joining the Magic Bullet Records family and assembling 8 initial offerings that will see the light of day in early 2009 in the form of 10"/CD/digital. It is with overwhelming pride and appreciation that we bring you GOLDEN CITY.

MAGIC BULLET TO ISSUE ENGINE KID DISCOGRAPHY IN 2009

Often, you'll hear of a band that existed "before their time." More often than not, it's a reference or acknowledgment of a group of musicians that defied the stylistic and aesthetic trappings of the then-status quo and weren't afraid to embark on their own sonic pilgrimage. And as the times catch up, posthumous accolades bestow said entity and they finally realize their place in the annals of said genre.

Undoubtedly, "intelligent metal" and "post-rock" have become massive media fodder in recent times. Each month, stacks of new releases and glossy magazines line the shelves of record stores and bookstores worldwide, heralding a bunch of nerdy bearded dudes (with more press photos than songs) as being worthy purveyors of this "new" sound. The underlying hope of these bands is that nobody in the listening audience has done their homework or paid their dues. And to those that have... well, all they can do is shake their heads and wonder where all of this attention was 15 years ago when the foundation was being pounded out.

ENGINE KID, to this point, has been completely robbed. Robbed, fleeced, ripped off, copied, and plagiarized... literally. Existing in the early-mid 90's, this Northwest trio trail-blazed, stumped, and abused the underground during their tenure. Was it hardcore? Was it punk rock? Was it metal? All anybody knew back then was that it was the loudest god-damned three piece that ever plowed through their local VFW. The recorded output was cataloged with similar uncertainty, being scattered around amongst such diverse labels as Revelation, C/Z, Troubleman, and beyond.

While subsequent bands in their pedigree (SUNN O))), GOATSNAKE) certainly were bestowed with the respect and support worthy of the music, ENGINE KID remained in large part a trade secret. Now, nearly 17 years since formation, Greg Anderson (guitar/vocals), Brian Kraft (bass), Jade Devitt (drums), Chris Vandebrooke (original drummer), and Magic Bullet Records are collective excited to announce a comprehensive discography of all out-of-print material for re-issue in 2009.

Fans new and old will be able to appreciate these lost sounds along with accompanying flyers, artwork, lyrics, liner notes, video, and so much more. Full details of this release will be announced in the coming weeks, as well as the potential for some extremely surprising ENGINE KID news that nobody will see coming.

Stay tuned.

THE PAPER CHASE TO RELEASE 10" ON MAGIC BULLET IN MARCH 2009

To mark 10 years as one of the most unique and bombastic bands the underground has to offer, Dallas, TX's own THE PAPER CHASE will be issuing a very special 10" record on Magic Bullet Records, slated for stores in early 2009. That's an inch a year, folks (how much have you grown in the last 10 years?). Fronted by noted producer John Congleton (BLACK MOUNTAIN, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, THIS WILL DESTROY YOU), THE PAPER CHASE has spent the better part of the past decade steadily winning over a very dedicated audience via their memorable live shows and a consistent stream of innovative and inspired albums on labels such as Kill Rock Stars, Southern, and Beatville.

The 10", the band's first new release since 2006's "Now You are One of Us," will give listeners a hint of what is to come on their full length CD from Kill Rock Stars later in the year. It will also contain material that is exclusive to what is already set to be the thickest piece of vinyl ever issued by Magic Bullet in its 12 years of existence.
